The Toto Asia Awards: The Best, Worst And Strangest Things We've Ever Seen

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding production facilities overseas, and was doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as a market that would grow for bidet and washlet toilet seats, as opposed its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could read the words. However, many words were being replaced with foreign ones, such as dui from Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Incorporated in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic development. In the early years of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. It was the first tunnel kilns in the country to produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, which helps to increase efficiency and a more consistent production.

In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began expanding overseas to benefit from sales and new markets. It established the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products from other manufacturers to complement its own lines of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expanded the firm's market share in the world.

In the 1990s Toto began to concentrate on research and development for water-related appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve the needs of customers and to increase profits. The company also employed the just-in-time approach to its supply chain management and sales program. This resulted in a greater level customer satisfaction.

Toto continued to innovate toilet technology. The latest toilet from the company features an environmentally friendly, powerful tornado flush. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green procurement policy. In addition to toilets Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs and hand dryers that are more energy efficient than standard models.



The first museum of the company opened in 2015, and it has exhibitions about Toto's iconic products and their development, its group companies (all having to do with ceramics), history of plumbing and products like bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum has a bathroom with a WASHLET and other toilet innovations.

Before the formation of Toto, members of the group performed session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich as well as guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also performed on albums by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

It is common for a group with a name such as Asia to be a prog rock group, but it is actually a relatively straightforward rock group. The band started out as a quartet and released two albums - 1979's self titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a wide range of musical backgrounds, their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a major blockbuster, but it was not without its share of problems. The record companies placed Toto under pressure to deliver the top single or they would rescind them. Luckily for Toto they did and they did it with the assistance of the smash single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is due to their previous experiences in the music industry, as the band members had been session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their distinctive sound has become the standard for  the '80s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

The album starts out hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to create great AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. But the album also contains some more mellow, jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distorted AOR and should sound totally wrong, but works amazingly well.

After Toto IV, the band's fortunes turned for the worse.  click the next post  left to concentrate on his solo career and the band went through several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the wake of drug charges and the band continued as a trio, which included Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It was not as well-liked as IV. The group managed to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was also the first album featuring a new singer, Simon Phillips.

Tours

The band has entertained millions of people around the world, performing sold-out shows in Europe, North America and Asia and also Australia and New Zealand. The band has a huge collection of songs, and their catalog has been listened to over one billion times on streaming services around the globe. The band's music has inspired many generations of fans.

Steve Lukather has forged a vibrant, intimate friendship with Joe Williams that is flourishing professionally all over the world. In 2018 the duo celebrated their 40 Tours Around The Sun by a hugely profitable global tour. The album with the same name landed at 5 on the Billboard 200. The new tour of the band includes their most popular songs and rarely live cuts, as well as a selection of songs from Lukather and Williams' individual catalogs.

Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet style of previous albums and was a more powerful, consistent effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard skills were also sharper, more complex and less akin to previous efforts.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live concert that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album was released shortly after, and the group went on a long-distance tour to promote it. During this period keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demos and tapes in search of an album that would feature songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a duo album titled Then and Now. It was the band's first album without one single track titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis condition that limited his singing abilities. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville, while drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia The original Asia members met in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, was renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had an appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
